Former TSA Chief Rear Admiral David Stone Joins SkyPort Board
December 13, 2006 – HOUSTON TEXAS, –David Stone, former Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), has been named to the board of directors of SkyPort International Inc., one of the nation’s leading providers of satellite and terrestrial communications services.
Stone, a retired Rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy, will assist SkyPort in playing an even larger role in providing disaster communications capability to first-responders and to the military.
“I want to help the United States at the Federal, State and Local levels, improve its disaster response communications capabilities” Admiral Stone said. “SkyPort’s performance in support of Katrina related operations were excellent. I am eager to assist my fellow Board Members in building on that success so that our Nation has the kind of communications capability we need to respond quickly and effectively during future disaster response events.
Admiral Stone, a 1974 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, retired from the Navy in 2002 and shortly thereafter became the first Federal Security Director at Los Angeles International Airport for the Department of Homeland Security. President Bush nominated him as Assistant Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security in charge of the entire TSA in 2004. He held the top leadership position at TSA for 18 months before leaving to form and serve as President of The Alacrity Homeland Group , a Washington DC based firm that provides strategic planning and consulting services in the Homeland Security and Critical Infrastructure arena.
SkyPort was awarded the Army National Guard’s Minuteman Award for the Company’s performance during Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma in 2005. SkyPort was cited for “directly contributing to the National Guard’s ability to provide solid, uninterrupted communications support” during the disasters.
Robert Kubbernus, chairman of SkyPort’s board, said Admiral Stone’s experience will provide SkyPort executives with a first-hand perspective on the tactics and procedures of first-response planning.
“Admiral Stone will provide the board with significant insight into the communications challenges faced by first-responders and the military in times of disaster,” Kubbernus said. “He will also help SkyPort’s government and security clients better understand how our services can provide communications in times of emergency.”
