SkyPort Expands Into X-Band Capabilities

  • January 12, 2010 – HOUSTON, TEXAS – SkyPort Global Communications completes the installation of X-band technologies at its headquarter facility at Ellington Joint Reserve Base. SkyPort will begin testing the early stages of a combined Ku and X band National Emergency Response Networks as well as all functionalities of the X-band 16’ LHGXA antenna and related hardware components. In support of the war fighters and the DoD’s requirement for broadband communication capabilities on all military aircraft, SkyPort will continue to explore opportunities using the X- band frequency.

The X-band frequencies are designated specifically for the use of the US government and the governments of US allies. There is a growing requirement for true broadband services to be delivered to US military aircraft in support of mission requirements, such as video distribution and providing personnel on the aircraft with high speed network services.

“SkyPort currently supports many efforts of National Guard and emergency response groups,” states Robert Kubbernus, SkyPort CEO. “Our X-Band efforts are a natural extension to our capabilities. With our strategic location, military sponsorship and FCC approval, SkyPort is ideally positioned and excited to provide value through its research, development and expansion into X-band capabilities.”
